According to a 2010 study carried out on school children between the ages of six years and twelve years, children in Sevilla are not only the most obese in Andalucia and Spain, but also in Europe.
The study into dietary habits and physical exercise was carried out in fifteen schools and involved 1,559 children.
It was found that 29.4% of the children were either overweight or obese and girls tended to be more obese (31.6%) than boys (27.3%).
In what are considered to be marginal areas, the high level of obesity is attributed to the fact that fatty and sugary foods are the cheapest foodstuffs.
