The proposed construction of a mortuary in the Cuesta del Visillo area of Torre del Mar has met continued opposition from local residents who believe that such a facility in a residential area will affect property values.
The residents are now at the point of putting the matter in the hands of lawyers and pursuing their case through the courts.
The opposition to the facility led the Council to offer the company building the mortuary an alternative site near the tram depot. The company thanked the Council for the offer but stated that, after a thorough evaluation and study, they were going to proceed on the original site opposite edificio Cerro del Águila IV in Cuesta del Visillo.
The company also stated that when they bought the land, they had the support of the deputy Mayor of Torre del Mar, Manuel Rincón, although later, for unknown reasons, he apparently changed his mind.
