The UGT union claims that there are currently 17,000 undelivered letters in Chiclana, a situation they say is caused by mismanagement of postal service staff.
Correos in Chiclana has thirty staff, sufficient to serve the area under normal circumstances but not when there is any degree of absenteeism.
The UGT say that similar staffing problems occur in larger towns, such as El Puerto and Jerez, and could easily be repeated in smaller towns.
Postal workers in Chiclana are planning protest action to demand more stability as well as a longer, six month, standard contract for workers.
