Local 112 emergency service

The local 112 emergency service, which was launched in November 2009 following the signing of a cooperation agreement between Nerja and the Ministry of Interior, last year recorded a total of 390 calls.

Most of these calls were related to medical care, traffic accidents and fires. The summer months realised the most calls, with 69 calls during the month of August. The most popular times for calls was between 13:00 and 17:00 hours and from 20:00 to 23:00, with Saturdays and Sundays being the busiest days of the week.

The local police chief stressed the importance of this service but highlighted the need for it to used responsibly, noting that sometimes it has been used for minor problems such as stray or loose animals, social service issues or matters relating to basic utilities or services.
