Following his arrest for assault and battery, a 26 year old from Aljarafe, Sevilla, told the Guardia Civil he had not intended to kick his seven month pregnant wife in the stomach, he had been aiming for her face.
Police were called to a house in Aljarafe by a woman, seven months pregnant, who claimed she was being abused by her husband. Police found her in a state of distress and fearful that a kick she had received to the stomach had affected her unborn baby. The woman was then taken to a health centre for a medical check.
A visual inspection of the home by the police revealed a lot of damage to walls and doors throughout the house, the result of kicks and punches.
The alleged attacker, 26 year old S.B., an Algerian national, was subsequently arrested and charged with assault and battery, abuse and gender violence. He did not resist arrest and in his defence he stated that he had not intended to kick his wife in the stomach, he had been aiming at her head.
In her statement to the police, the wife said that she had not slept for two days as her husband kept waking her and hurling insults at her. She also stated that the husband had threatened to kill the baby if it was born with any defects. The woman has a deaf-mute daughter from a previous marriage.
