Despite vehement opposition by local residents, Vélez-Málaga has approved the planning permission for the construction of a mortuary in the residential area of Cuesta del Visillo in Torre del Mar.
Local residents believe that a mortuary in a residential area will have an adverse effect on their quality of life and will affect house prices.
The mortuary will cost €1,448,274 and the company has six months in which to begin construction and twelve months to complete the project.
Local residents are planning a demonstration outside the Torre del Mar Town Hall on Monday at 12:00 to protest the decision.
The chance of the licence being revoked is now virtually zero as this would involve compensation to the developer and the municipal coffers are in poor health.
