There have been new complaints by residents and ecological societies about raw sewage entering the rio Chillar in Nerja.
On this occasion there appear to be discharges near the Joaquin Herrera school, by the bridge and at the mouth of the river at El Playazo beach.
The discharges, which are fairly regular occurrences, occur despite the efforts of the Council and Aguas Narixa, the company in charge of the water supply since 2009, to put a stop to this practice. The situation is not helped, of course, by the lack of any sort of sewage facility in Nerja.
According to the Council, these ‘intermittent’ discharges occur when people illegally connect sewage outlets to the rainwater drainage pipes. Fines for doing this start at €600.
