The Local Police in Ronda are being equipped with a pioneering new communication system in Andalucia which will see the end of the traditional walkie talkies and allow for real-time monitoring of the location of each agent.
The project is costing €200,000 and is being financed under the State Plan for Local Employment and Sustainability (FEESL).
The new system will provide the 70 local police officers with a terminal similar in appearance to a mobile phone and will reduce the response time of officers to any incident. A display constantly monitors the position of the police officers so that those closest to an incident can be mobilized within a matter of minutes. The actual positions of the officers are updated every 30 seconds.
Simultaneous operations and communications can be carried out without any signal interference and data, such as information on a stolen vehicle, can also be transferred to the handsets.
