Thirty companies have so far submitted bids for the renovation of the promenade in Torre del Mar, a project now valued at €2,477,366.
It has taken four years to get to this stage and the project has changed considerably, the original plans involving an investment of over €9 million. Refining the project has reduced the bill to €2,4 million.
The current promenade is 25 years old and has many deficiencies. The renovations are being started using funding of 2.2 million from the Tourist Infrastructure Modernisation Fund (FOMIT).
The project includes repairs to damaged decorative elements, new infrastructure, paving, lighting, new street furniture, installation of public toilets, remodelling of garden areas with a computerised irrigation system to allow the use of recycled water from the sewage treatment plant in Vélez-Málaga and a cycle lane from avenida Toré Toré to the río Seco.
The scheduled start to the renovations does mean that summer visitors will be greeted with construction work but the Council is trying to make sure that this does not interfere with the enjoyment of the area.
