King Juan Carlos is visiting the naval base in Rota today to take a look at the ‘Juan Carlos I’, the largest ship in the Spanish Navy.
The ship, which cost €360 million to build and was launched in March 2008, is in the Bay of Cádiz for operational assessment for combat.
The ‘Juan Carlos I’ is 230 metres long and is bigger than the aircraft carrier ‘Príncipe de Asturias’. It has the capacity to carry 1,400 troops and currently has a crew of 250 people.
The King will witness a number of manoeuvres and exercises being carried at the base.
