There were 134,105 official complaints relating to domestic violence during 2010, a slight decrease when compared to the previous three years.
Of these complaints, 78% related to actual physical injuries and there were 37,900 applications for restraining orders.
Looked at another way, this works out at 368 complaints, or denuncias, every single day of the year. The true figure of domestic violence incidents must be a lot higher as many do not report regular abuse, either through fear or the hope that things will ‘get better’ or someone ‘will change’.
The leading areas regarding complaints for domestic violence are: Cataluña, Andalucía, Madrid, Comunidad Valenciana and Canarias.
