New cloud storage facility

Security software giant AVG, the fourth largest provider of anti-virus software, has announced a new service to let users store, sync and share files in the cloud using a variety of channels and devices.

It sounds as if the new service, called Livekive, will be similar in nature to many of the similar, existing cloud storage possibilities such as the much-used Dropbox.

Livekive comes with automated syncing functionality and works on both Apple and Microsoft platforms. All data is encrypted and can be accessed and shared from any web-enabled device, including Android, iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices.

AVG will offer Livekive users three tiers of storage options: A free 5GB offering, 25GB for $49.99 per year or ‘unlimited’ storage for $79.99 per year. The latter will be subject to the company’s fair usage policy.

Dropbox offers 2GB free of charge, 50GB of storage for $99 per year or 100GB for $199 per year. Another online storage facility, Box.net, offers 5GB of free storage with the option to upgrade to a premium version offering 500GB of storage for $15 per month or $180 per year.
