Ten days to Easter, the first major holiday period of the year, and campaigns are under way to promote domestic tourism in Andalucia.
Last year, Andalucia accounted for 21% of domestic tourism during the Easter period and the authorities are determined to maintain this level.
The Ministry of Tourism of the Junta de Andalucia is spending €450,000 to promote the region, the campaign continuing until Easter Wednesday.
In Huelva, for example, the authorities have doubled the number of people involved in tidying up the place for the processions. Over one hundred people are involved in tidying up garden areas, fixing lighting and cables and cleaning streets where processions will take place.
Easter can also be a lucrative time for those renting property to visitors. In Sevilla, for example, an apartment in a prime location for viewing the parades could set you back €6,000 for the week.
