Although the current UK Government website www.direct.gov.uk appears to be well structured, comprehensive and fairly easy to use and navigate, a new consolidated website is scheduled to appear in a public ‘alpha’ version on May 9th.
The idea of a single government domain was proposed in a report published last year called ‘Revolution not Evolution’ by Martha Lane Fox.
This ‘new approach’ is apparently centred around users searching for answers to questions and then being provided with both tools and guides.
In future, rather than each Government department having its own website, Alphagov, as it is currently being called, will be a central repository for the vast majority of information.
