On Sunday April 10th, while much of the town celebrated Dia del Residente – Residents Day – in Plaza de España, the Nerja Green Party held an anti-nuclear rally on the Balcon de Europa.
The Green Party, who are contesting the upcoming municipal elections on May 22nd, advocate a no-nuclear energy policy for Spain and the adoption of alternative sources of energy, particularly solar.
The Greens want to see renewable energy systems used in the municipality which would, they say, reduce the municipal electricity bill by up to 30%.
Also proposed is more investment in sustainable mobilty with the introduction of cycle paths, loans to buy bicycles, pedestrianisation of the town centre, improved public transport, the construction of a large, central park and the planting of trees wherever possible on all streets.
