This coming weekend, the Board of the Alhambra and Generalife in Granada will open the the Mirador ‘Silla del Moro’ to the public, free of charge, to mark the International Day of Monuments and Sites, which will be held on April 18th.
The Board has organized two guided tours with archaeologist Luis Martínez Vázquez and architect Pedro Salmerón for those who want to know more detail about some of the features of this XIV century integrated military defence network.
La Silla del Moro is a vestige of the medieval buildings linked to the Alhambra and Generalife along with the palaces of Dar al-Arousa and Alijares.
Located on the northern flank of the Cerro del Sol, the Silla del Moro maintained a dominant position over the river Darro, Generalife gardens, Alhambra, Granada, La Vega and the surrounding mountains. It was specifically designed to monitor the Acequia Real (Royal Canal), the source of the water supply for the Alhambra and Generalife.
