Municipal revenue from building licences in Torrox improved slightly in 2010, at least they didn’t make a loss as was the case in 2009.
The municipality earned a mere €90,000 from building licences, its main source of revenue, during 2010. most of this coming from renovations and minor alterations. Around a dozen permits were granted for new building projects.
This is a far cry from the boom years of 2004 to 2007 when the municipality was raking in up to €5 million a year. In 2009, due to having to repay a number of building licences for cancelled projects, the municipality made a loss of €200,000.
