Just one week after ordering the release from prison of convicted ETA member Antonio Troitiño, responsible for over 20 assassinations, the High Court has issued a warrant for his arrest.
Antonio Troitiño, sentenced to over 2,200 years in prison for more than twenty killings, was released last week having served the maximum time under Spanish law, thirty years, less time spent in preventative detention, in this case six years.
The prosecution lodged an appeal against the decision to release him.
On March 28th, the Supreme Court ruled that two ETA prisoners should have the time spent in preventative custody deducted from their total sentence and not from the thirty year maximum set under Spanish law.
In the light of this decision by the Supreme Court, the judges at the High Court have now reviewed their initial ruling and have decided that the six year deduction for time served in preventative detention should apply to the total sentence and not to the maximum thirty years.
This means that Antonio Troitiño would now remain in prison until January 17th, 2017.
