The creator of video game franchises ‘Mario Bros.’ or ‘The Legend of Zelda’ and ‘Donkey Kong’, Shigeru Miyamoto, has been nominated for the Prince of Asturias Prize for Communications and Humanities.
Miyamoto is also responsible for such things as ‘Wii Fit’, ‘Brain Training’ and ‘Art Academy’.
The Prince of Asturias Award for Communication and humanities was created in 1981 to distinguish ‘a person, group or institution whose creative work or research represents a significant contribution to universal culture in these fields.’
The first recipient was the writer Maria Zambrano and other recipients have included the historian Claudio Sánchez Albornoz, journalists Indro Montanelli and Ryszard Kapucinski, El País, EFE, CNN and Google.
