Around 2,000 users still without telephone or internet connection in Málaga

A week after the fire at the Telefónica station in Huelin, Málaga, there are still around 2,000 users without telephone or ADSL internet and many businesses have been suffering.

Businesses have been unable to accept credit card payments and some ATM’s have also been affected, meaning customers can’t pop out and get cash as an alternative. Although millions could have been lost as a result of the incident, compensation to those affected is only around €1 per day, a little more if they were without both telephone and internet service.

There have been around 200 technicians working to correct the proble, install new wiring and get the services up and running again. Apparently, according to Telefónica, such complex repairs would normally take up to six months, but due to the circumstances they have managed the job within four days.

Of around 700 businesses in the carretera de Cádiz area of Málaga, around 140 establishments still lack the necessary connection to bill by credit card.

The rapid repair job did cause a temporary problem with crossed lines but this has now apparently been completely fixed.

Around 90,000 users were originally affected by the fire.
