After only ten years from the initial idea, the Sisters of the Good Samaritan Residential Nursing Home could be officially inaugurated and opened in June or July of this year, all that remains is the paving of the access road, the obtaining of approval and certification from the Junta de Andalucia, the obtaining of various licenses and the connection of the electricity supply.
The residential home and day care centre is located near the urbanisations Almijara 1 and 2 and overlooks the Rio Chillar. The land was provided by the Council and funding for the project, the total cost of which is €3.3 million, has come via a loan from the Cajamar bank (€1.5 million) and contributions from the Council, the Nerja Caves Foundation and the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
The centre will eventually have a total of sixty single and double rooms available for residence and day care and, as from the summer, some 38 people will be employed at the facility.
