This week is the fifteenth anniversary of Ikea in Spain and the company is offering a 10% discount on all purchases up until Saturday.
Ikea has 13 stores in Spain, including the Málaga branch which opened in 2007. The Málaga store received 3.2 million visitors last year, of which 80% were from Málaga province, 10% from Granada and the rest from Jaén , Córdoba and Cádiz.
Around 65% of customers are couples aged between 25 and 49, some 25% are foreign residents on the coast of whom half are British.
Ikea’s Málaga store provides direct employment for 489 people and indirect employment to a further hundred. Although it has long been mooted that a second store would be opening up along the coast, possibly in Marbella or Fuengirola, the crisis in the real estate sector has forced the shelving of any such plans, certainly in the short term.
