Not sure why anyone would want to move the site of the San Isidro celebrations from the Nerja Caves area. Granted it is not a state of the art ‘celebration centre’ but it seems perfectly adequate, has a relaxed atmosphere being a rustic setting and is a good distance from the town for the ‘pilgrimage’.
Anyway, the destination of the pilgrimage is the home of San Isidore, which is the hermitage in the grounds of the Nerja Caves. Would they plan to move that, too?
Hopefully it is just another bit of pre-election party political rhetoric, of which there is a flood at the moment, and we all know you shouldn’t believe anything spouted during the run-up to an election as it is generally just a thinly disguised, if not completely transparent, means of attracting votes from a particular section of the public.
It was apparently the leader of the PSOE, Ángel Ramirez, who, in an interview with Tele Nerja, stated that if he becomes mayor he will move the site of the San Isidro celebrations.
San Isidro is, of course, one of the only two days during the year that the Nerja Caves is closed, the other being January 1st, but surely that can’t be an issue.
