Storm damage in Riogordo last Thursday when 100 litres of water accumulated in just three hours has been initially estimated at €500,000.
The storm caused severe damage to infrastructure, including the municipal water supply and the sewage treatment plant. Ruptured water pipes have left more than one hundred homes without running water. Importing water in tankers has not been possible due to the state of the roads and the level of the river and residents will have to wait until the damaged pipes are repaired.
Vast amounts of mud have accumulated in the water treatment system and it remains out of action. Due to the amount of mud and debris, it is not yet known whether the collectors can be repaired or will have to be replaced.
The storm hit the town between 02:30 and 05:30 last Thursday morning.
