Movistar Team rider Xavier Tondo, who finished sixth in the Vuelta a Espana in 2010 and won the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon in April, was killed in a freak accident at the Sierra Nevada ski resort on Monday. The 32-year-old Spaniard was crushed between his car and a garage door as he prepared to set off for training. Fellow Spanish cyclist Benat Intxausti was behind the wheel of the car at the time of the accident.
