The municipality of Torrox is trying to sort out who will govern following the recent elections, an initial meeting between the PSOE, the largest party, and the IU to discuss a pact having floundered due to the IU condition that the PSOE leader, Francisco Muñoz, and four other socialists must resign.
The PSOE, with six councillors, would be able to rule with an absolute majority if a pact could be reached with the IU, which has three councillors. However, in 2006, the IU denounced Francisco Muñoz and four of his fellow socialists for planning violations. The High Court of Justice (TSJA) of Andalucia has just recently ‘archived’ the complaint.
That leaves the PSOE with the choice of either trying to reach agreement with the PIU (2 councillors) and PSA (1 councillor) or trying to rule as a minority government. However, it is not being discounted that the PP (5 councillors) could reach an agreement with other parties and therefore take control.
