According to the Hamburg Senator for Health, Cornelia Prüfer-Storks, Spanish cucumbers are not the source of the current E.coli outbreak that has so far killed at least 15 people in Germany.
The Senator is reported as saying that laboratory tests carried out have shown that the variant of the bacterium discovered in the Spanish cucumber does not match that found in the feces of patients.
This is the same Senator who initially blamed Spanish cucumbers for the outbreak.
