After two successive election defeats, Ángel Ramirez has decided to step down from front line politics, resigning both as leader of the PSOE and as manager of the Nerja Caves Foundation.
Ramirez declared that, having failed to earn the trust of the people of Nerja at two consecutive elections, it was time to make way for new blood. He added that eight years in such a position was enough for anyone and stated that his decision was ‘irrevocable’.
Whether that decision is as ¡irrevocable’ as the Mayor’s decision not to stand for a fourth, let alone fifth, term of office remains to be seen.
Ramirez lamented the failure to focus on local issues at the last election and attributes the poor results achieved by the PSOE as punishment for the Central Government’s handling of the financial crisis.
His position in the Council will be taken by the number six in the PSOE list, Pedro Romón Fernández.
Ron says:
This might means things can move on quicker in relation to caves business, he was always at odds with the PP in Nerja.
Lynne Hanson says:
Maybe now the Nerja caves will make a profit! I never understood how they didn’t as so many people visit. Was it just that he (like me) does not have a ‘financial head’ or is it that he is just a crook?
