The Tyre Renewal Plan, an initiative launched by the Ministry for Industry, Tourism and Trade, comes into effect today, Friday June 10th and will run until December 15th or earlier if the allotted funds run out.
The Plan is an incentive to encourage people to renew their tyres for ones which are more efficient and therefore reduce carbon dioxide emissions and fuel consumption.
Car owners have to change all four tyres under the scheme and for doing this they will receive a €20 per tyre subsidy.
The budget for the scheme is €4.8 million and there are currently 1,300 outlets taking part. Three tyre manufactures have opted to participate in the scheme, Pirelli, GT Radial and Nankang Rubber Tire.
