The Mountain Rescue Service (Sereim) of the Guardia Civil in Granada had to carry out two rescue operations on Saturday in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
In two separate incidents, two injured hikers had to be rescued from isolated areas in the Sierra Nevada mountains in Granada.
The first incident occured early in the afternoon when an Austrian hiker, part of a group hiking to the Cueva Secreta near the source of the río Genil in the municipality of Güéjar Sierra, fell and badly injured his leg.
The injured man was airlifted by helicopter to Pradollano and from there was transferred to the Hospital de Traumatología in Granada.
In the second incident, a lone woman climber suffered a fall at Loma de los Machos on the north face of Veleta in the municipality of Monachil. Low cloud and fog prevented the use of a helicopter and she was eventually collected by vehicle and taken to Pradollano. She had suffered head and leg injuries.
