Guardia Civil officers and firemen have rescued a man who fell down a 25 metre deep well in a wheat field in Los Molares, Sevilla, while allegedly attempting to steel the motor.
A local farmer raised the alarm after noticing an open vehicle near the field and hearing screams of pain coming from the well. The well is 25 metres deep and has around 10 metres of water in it.
At first, the Guardia Civil thought it could have been a suicide attempt but, after being rescued, the man did not reveal any suicidal intentions and in conversations with the police, his family also rejected this possibility.
As a result, the investigation shifted towards the possibility that the man was attempting to steal the motor from the well. Evidence found nearby, in addition to the fact that the well had been covered with a lid and the owner had not given permission for anyone to access it or carry out work on it, led to the man being charged with theft.
The alleged thief, identified as A.R.P., suffered serious injuries, including fractured vertebrae, and was transferred to the Centro Hospitalario de Alta Resolución in Utrera.
