Tonight is a total lunar eclipse and, being one of the longest in recent times, the moon will look very red.
The lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes between the sun and the moon and tonight the moon will pass through the centre of the shadow cast by the Earth and, therefore, will be longer than normal and will produce the ‘red’ effect.
The eclipse will be in the total phase at 21:30 and the peak will be at 22:14 and lasting until 23:30. The last contact with the umbra (shadow) will be at midnight.
Associations of astronomers and various observatories will be broadcasting the event live on the internet but it should be clearly visible throughout Spain for those wishing to witness it for themselves.
