The Council has approved the basic design and construction project for the proposed botanical gardens to be built in the area around the Nerja Caves.
The Council also approved an addendum to the project requiring the Department of Environment to fund the construction of a reservoir to meet the needs of the area. Always seems to be some little ‘extra’ added on to these things at a late stage just as a project finally begins to get moving.
The project appears to have been approved by the Junta de Andalucia who have sent all the necessary technical documents to the Council as had been requested.
The botanical gardens will cover an area of 30,000 square metres and will be on land ceded to the nerja Caves Foundation by the Nerja Council. There will be around 5,000 plants, a reception and information area, a classroom-workshop, 1,260 metres of walkways and an 11 metre long footbridge.
The project has a budget of €2,154,776.
