Seller of dodgy hams arrested in Córdoba

The police in Córdoba have arrested a man in connection with the attempted sale of 60 hams which had not passed the relevant health checks and were in fact intended for consumption by animals, mainly dogs.

A local resident in Las Palmeras alerted police to the fact that a man was offering cheap hams for sale on the street, telling people they were the proceeds of a robbery. The police went to investigate and eventually located a van containing 62 parts of porkers, both shoulder and leg hams.

The driver was questioned about the source of the meat but gave several different stories, so police confiscated the hams and began an investigation to find out where they came from.

During further questioning, the individual stated that he had acquired the meat from a company in Granada. As the individual had no background with the breeding of animals, particularly dogs, and was not licensed for waste management, the police contacted the Córdoba Health Department who, in turn, contacted their colleagues in Granada.

Meat companies are banned from selling products unfit for human consumption to third parties unless it is a waste management company specialising in the destruction of such products.
