Police in Málaga have arrested a 65 year old woman and her 45 year old son on charges of forging 350 prescriptions for psychotropic drugs.
The investigation began six weeks ago after a doctor at the Hospital Carlos Haya in Málaga reported the theft of several blank prescription pads used for prescribing drugs to pensioners.
Several chemists in the city reported having received what they suspected were forged prescriptions.
A search of the house belonging to the mother and son resulted in the discovery of a number of pills and items presumably used in the forging of prescriptions such as different inks, seals and stamps.
The detainees have been charged with forgery and crimes against public health. They have not been charged with the theft of the prescription pads themselves as it has not been possible to prove their involvement in the theft.
