Heavily indebted Vélez-Málaga Council has lost yet another government grant for failing to implement a project within the allotted time period.
The latest grant loss related to a €275,000 project to install information panels, banners, plaques, cycle racks and street furniture in the commercial centre (Centro Comercial Abierto) in Torre del Mar.
The project was to be funded with a 50% grant from the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Sports of the Junta de Andalucia. A condition of the grant was that the project must be carried out within six months of publication of the project in the BOJA, namely by April 24th 2010.
According to the mayor, Francisco Delgado (PP), the project was shelved by the previous PSOE, IU and GIPMTM administration due to a lack of funds, the Council having to provide €137,500 of the total cost.
