The Public Prosecutor is requesting a 26 year prison term for Hicham Bellaster, a 29 year old Moroccan national who carried out the brutal murder of Cecilia Natalia Coria Olivares on the Balcon de Europa on September 28th 2008.
Cecilia Natalia Coria Olivares and Hicham Bellaster had maintained a stormy relationship between 2005 and 2007 which was finally ended by Cecilia in 2008. However, her former boyfriend refused to accept the break-up and continued to stalk, threaten and intimidate her.
In November 2007, Hicham Bellaster was sentenced to six months in prison after attempting to strangle Cecilia in a nightclub in Nerja. A restraining order was also imposed. However, despite continued abuse, both psychological and violent, during their entire relationship, Cecilia agreed to give Hicham ‘one last chance’ before definitively ending the relationship in August 2008.
One week before the tragic event, Cecilia contacted the Local Police regarding constant harassment by Hicham Bellaster, stating that she feared for her life. From this point, Cecilia was escorted to and from her workplace on the Balcon de Europa by a uniformed police officer.
However, on September 28th 2008, Hicham Bellaster called one of his friends and said that he was going to kill Cecilia and an hour later, finding her alone on the Balcon de Europa as she prepared the terrace tables at her workplace, he attacked her with a large knife, stabbing her eighteen times.
In court, Hicham Bellaster confessed to the killing and the judgement is expected to take place after the summer.
