After a review of its current financial situation, Torrox Council has announced that it can neither guarantee the provision of all municipal services nor the full payroll of municipal employees.
The Councillor for Finance, Rocío Ariza (PSOE), stated that a new budget was necessary to allow for the provision of municipal services until the end of the year. The PSOE rules Torrox with a minority government and the development and approval of a new budget would require the cooperation of all the political parties.
Ariza stated that the politicians should put aside partisan interests in favour of those of the residents. That would certainly be a first.
The Parks and Gardens department is already €39,000 over budget, the maintenance of beaches is €12,000 in the red and the Department of Fiestas and Festivals is €6,000 over budget and the major festivals have yet to occur.
The Department of Tourism has also exhausted its funds, so no new promotions or services can be expected until the problem is resolved.
