The Labour Inspectorate has sanctioned a company in Churriana de la Vega, Granada province, for sexual descrimination after it told a prospective female candidate that a job vacancy was reserved ‘for a man’.
The complaint was made by the CCOO union and relates to a woman who, via the Andalucia Employment Service (SAE), was selected for an interview with a company in Churriana de la Vega.
However, after several days, the SAE called the woman to tell her that she need not attend the interview because the job was ‘reserved for a man’. Despite this call, the woman nevertheless turned up for the interview where the company confirmed in writing that it was looking for a man to fill the vacancy.
The company concerned has been fined for a ‘very serious offence’ and has lost grants, bonuses and benefits relating to various employment programmes.
