The Vélez-Málaga tram, the first in Andalucia, continues to be plagued by bad luck, this time a lorry bringing down overhead cables and forcing the service to be suspended for three hours.
A lorry with a boom was travelling along avenida de las Naciones on Friday afternoon and at the Rubeltor roundabout it caught the overhead cables, rupturing a number of supporting brackets and hooks. The result was to bring down about one kilometre of power cables between the Rubeltor roundabout and the parque Jurado Lorca.
Police closed the road between the Andalucía roundabout and the Explanada de la Estación while repairs were carried out and the cable removed. Although this cabling is on the section not yet in operation, despite being finished over two years ago, the tram service was halted for three hours while the power was cut to allow for the removal of the cable.
