A boat carrying 64 illegal immigrants, including 21 women and 12 children under the age of 3 years, was intercepted off the Granada coast on Saturday after being spotted by local fishing vessels.
The boat was spotted three and a half miles north of the isla de Alborán on Saturday afternoon and the Marine Rescue vessel ”Guardamar Caliope” was sent to intercept.
The passengers, including one woman in the late stages of gestation, were taken to the prot of Motril where Red Cross officials were on hand to offer assistance if necessary.
Earlier on Saturday, a boat carrying 28 adult males was intercepted about fourteen miles off the Granada coast by the Marine Rescue vessel ‘Salvamar Hamal’. All were in good health and are now awaiting repatriation.
