The municipal spokesman, José Miguel García, has described the situation regarding the proposed sewage plant in Nerja as ‘worrying’ following a meeting on Tuesday with the Ministry of Environment.
José Miguel García and the Mayor, José Alberto Armijo, had requested a meeting with the Minister, Rosie Aguilar, but could only get to see deputies. The Councillor reported that there is still no firm date set for the tendering of the contract for construction of the sewage plant and that they might hear more news at a later date, possibly in October.
It has also apparently not yet even been decided whether to put the contract out to open tender with specialised companies or to use a public company under the Ministry of Environment. The impression gained from the meeting is that interest in the project by the Ministry is rather small.
A cynic might expect a flurry of activity, if only more shallow promises, nearer to the general election.

Does anyone know this Rosie Aguilar’s email address? Maybe a daily reminder from everyone concerned would show her how much this sewage plant is wanted.
Barry says:
Excellent idea, Planet – I for one would be prepared to legally harass, sorry REMIND, Rosie Aguilar of her obligations every day until Nerja moves on from third world sewerage treatment. As an aside, Planet, I assume you do not live in Nerja, as you are probably furthest from the sun ?
Clive says:
The powers that be are well aware of the extremely serious situation regarding lack of sewage disposal in Nerja, and yet have been dragging their feet for years. Obviously they have not changed even though the situation is now much, much, worse. They must have some political agenda. One can only imagine the situation in Nerja in a few years time as it will take a several years to build the new treatment plant even if they were to act swiftly. Health hazard increasing by the day.
Clive says:
I did provide a link in my previous post to an article in a previous edition of Euroweekly regarding the divers who recently discovered several breaks not far from shore in the sewage pipe that carries all the waste of Nerja into the sea. As this link has not appeared I assume that they are not allowed.
Lynne Hanson says:
My husband sent an e-mail to the Blue Flag organisation informing them of the dreadful state of the beaches in Nerja regarding the non-treatment of sewage. They did reply very quickly and are to investigate. If Nerja’s ‘Blue Flag’ status is taken away, perhaps some action will be taken.
People have to speak up; maybe the Major should ‘camp’ outside Rosie Aguilar’s office until she does see him.
planet says:
Well done Lynne’s hubby. I contacted the blue flag lot too a few months ago and had no reply at all. I might just try again. I had no luck finding Rosa ‘Rosie’ Aguilar’s email on the web. Does the mayor read this site? – he should – Maybe he has it?

Here are the links to a couple of interesting items regarding the sewage in the sea off Nerja. These are the correct links to the two items previously mentioned –

I was down at Burriana beach yeaterday and even went in the sea!
As I got out I saw a slick drifting from Nerja – Maro and I watched as people spotted it and raced to get out the sea. The sea was then empty for 20-30 minutes before the new people arrived and dove in blissfully unaware. What I want to know is do the people who have business want this reporting to continue until something is done or do they fear for their livelihoods and want it kept quiet? I’ll respect their decision. Any news from the blue flag organisation?
