It has been a busy summer of spending for Málaga C.F. with no less than nine new players arriving on the scene, the latest being Cazorla.
Cazorla cost the club around €21 million and has signed a five year deal, with the midfielder’s release clause set at €45 million by his new club. The Blue and Whites are now coached by Cazorla’s former boss at Villarreal, Manuel Pellegrini.
Cazorla is the ninth signing of the summer for the ambitious club, owned by Qatari Sheik Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Thani, the major names being Ruud van Nistelrooy, Joaquin and Jeremy Toulalan. Cazorla’s transfer fee eclipses the club record paid for Toulalan when he joined from Lyon in an €11 million deal.
Meanwhile, Málaga continued their pre-season preparations with a 0-3 win against Dutch side Utrecht, the goals coming from Duda, Baptista and van Nistelrooy.
Málaga will be looking for a more consistent performance during the new season after struggling to survive for the past couple of years. Despite finishing mid-table last season, the Blue and Whites were literally all over the place, top four, rock bottom and finally eleventh.
