Awareness campaigns by Vélez-Málaga Council regarding the depositing of rubbish on the streets at correct times and the necessity for pet owners to clear up after their animals have apparently fallen upon deaf ears during recent years, so the Council has decided it is about time to take action.
Local Police have been instructed to be more vigilant and to fine offenders, the penalties ranging from €90 to €30,000.
The ordinance regulating organic waste (Article 48) stipulates that it can be deposited in the containers from 19:00 from November to March and from 21:00 from April to October.
A minor offence carries a €90 to €300 fine, a serious offence carries a €301 to €600 fine and a very serious offence carries a fine of €601 to €30,000.
So far this year around 70 people have been fines for violations of the ordinance.
