The Christmas and New Year celebrations are in full swing in the municipality of Bérchules in the Alpujarras of Granada.
For 17 years, since 1994, the municipality has held New Year celebrations in the summer, complete with carols, grapes and champagne and all the rest of the traditional items including the parade of the Three Kings.
Tonight is New Year, with fireworks, grapes and cava at midnight. The population of the town is normally around 800 inhabitants, but this will increase tenfold for this almost unique celebration.
Almost unique because one other town celebrates New Year on the first Saturday in August, Valoria la Buena in Valladolid.
