Apparently, foreign residents who have been registered on the padrón, the Town Hall census list, for more than 5 years are now required to check to make sure they are still on this list. A new law states that after a period of 5 years, foreigners must confirm every 2 years that they are still registered on the padrón.
It seems that if you do not sign the confirmation form or there has been no change to the padrón, such as a change of address, name or similar, there is the possibility that you could be removed from the padrón.
You can check that you are listed on the padrón via the Nerja Foreigners Department: email [email protected] or telephone 952 54 8401 Mondays to Fridays 10:00 – 13:30.
It should be fairly obvious to the authorities that those foreign residents who voted in the recent election (registration on the padrón being a requirement for eligibility to vote) are still properly registered, but one should not take this for granted. Best to confirm anyway, just to make sure.
