Carboneras Council has been forced to seal the Los Muertos car park until a dispute with the Department of Environment can be resolved, an action which leaves around 400 people with nowhere to park.
On July 25th, the Council notified the Department of Environment that it was setting in motion the Regulation and Management of the Parking Zone, moving rubble and other items from the area.
On August 8th, the Department of Environment began proceedings against the Council, demanding the immediate cessation of the unauthorized action, the halting of the expansion and refurbishment works for for the purpose of parking and the removal of temporarily or permanently parked vehicles on the site.
The Council has already appealed the decision of the Ministry but has, in the meantime, closed the parking area.
