The Guardia Civil and Local Police in Málaga joined forces to capture an escaped convict, described as dangerous, after he robbed a bank in Alhaurín de la Torre.
The man, aged 45 years, escaped from Badajoz prison on July 11th where he was serving a sentence for murder. He has a long criminal record and there are also outstanding warrants in connection with several robberies, including two in Nerja, and also the murder on July 17th of an Argentinian national in Chilches, Vélez-Málaga.
After a robbery last week in Alhaurín de la Torre, police spotted a car fleeing the scene. The vehicle ignored stop signs, putting pedestrians in danger, as it sped towards Málaga airport.
In the vicinity of the airport, the fleeing robber rammed his way through a checkpoint before overturning his vehicle in the San Julian area. He then fled on foot before finally being caught and arrested.
In the vehicle police found a semi-automatic weapon and €9,650, the booty from the robbery in Alhaurin de la Torre.
The detainee is suspected of being involved in three other armed robberies, one in Badajoz and two in Nerja. He was serving a 15 year sentence for murder and a score of robberies committed in the 1990’s when he absconded from prison.
