The Guardia Civil in cooperation with the Italian Carabinieri have arrested one of Italy’s most wanted criminals, a member of the Clan Giuliano of the Naples Camorra, in Estepona.
Salvatore D’Avino, aged 39 years, was wanted in connection with drugs trafficking, extortion and receiving stolen goods in the Forcella area of Naples.
D’Avino was actually living in Morocco, overseeing drugs traffic between Morocco and Italy, but was in Spain to visit his girlfriend, a Moroccan, who had travelled to the Costa del Sol to give birth.
Police set up surveillance in the area and waited for D’Avino to appear. He did, but due to the number of people around at the time and the possibilty of a violent response from D’Avino, they waited until he left the premises and was on the road to Algeciras, presumably on his way back to Morocco.
The police proceeded to arrest him when he stopped at a petrol station in Estepona.
