It is almost September and many people are beginning to think about ‘back to school’, but at the same time trying not to think about the cost involved.
In Málaga, where the costs are around the national average, getting the kids back to school is expected to cost, on average, €420 in public schools, €650 in state assisted schools and €1,100 in the case of private schools.
These costs include not only books and other sundry items, but also dining, uniforms, extracurricular activities, tuition etc.
This year, due to late payment by the Junta de Andalucia for subsidised or partly subsidised external services, such as transportation, dining and extracurricular activities, some problems may arise during the academic year.
And they wonder why so many small and medium businesses get into financial difficulties.
The Málaga Consumers Association recommends trying to use materials from previous years where possible, avoiding ‘brand’ names which often carry a 50% premium and generally ‘shopping around’ to help reduce costs.
